Pioneer aviator Jimmy Woods is now honoured with a plaque at Aerodrome Park in Maylands and by the Rottnest Island air terminal renamed as the Jimmy Woods Terminal in 1987.

Our Frank Colquhoun collection includes:

  • MHS/FC 189, a 1933 photograph of Jimmy Woods preparing to take off in his Gipsy Moth in an attempt to break the Australia-England record. Mechanical problems plagued the flight but he eventually reached his goal without establishing a new record.
  • MHS/FC 388, a 1934 photograph of the Lockheed Vega purchased by Horrie Miller for the Centenary Air Race at Brooklands in the UK. Flown by Jimmy Woods and Don Bennett, it crashed on landing at Aleppo and was shipped to MMA at Maylands for repair.
  • MHS/FC 411, a 1938 photograph of  an assembled Lockheed ready for ferrying to Perth, with From L to R . Horrie Miller, Norman Adams, two Lockheed staff, unknown, Keith Dureau, Jimmy Woods, Bob Patterson.
