Donald Park is one of those easily overlooked and under-signposted parks, that’s a great place for rest, recreation and play. It’s a strip park that connects Sixth Avenue to Seventh Avenue close to the Seventh Avenue Bridge and just up from Railway Parade.

We’d like to know a lot more about Donald Park. We’ve been told that:

• the Seventh Avenue Bridge was built across the railway line so that people could get to the new Catholic church on time instead of driving their horse-driven vehicles down to the Caledonian Avenue level crossing (since closed). Donald Park was left as a pedestrian thoroughfare through to Sixth Avenue as a shortcut for those coming from further North and West,
• In the 30/40s, what is now Donald Park was an unkempt sandy track, Donald Park was used as a short cut by the students of Maylands Primary School marching over to Shearn Park on regular Sports days from the early 1930s, and
• there might be connections between Donald Way and Donald Square in Bayswater and Donald Park in Maylands (could they all relate to the same Donald?).
