Our Ted Fletcher collection testifies to his interest in the history of aviation in Western Australia.

In 1957, the Oil and Colour Chemists’ Associati0n Australia (West Australian Section) presented Ted Fletcher with a Certificate of Appreciation for his service and contribution to the surface coating industry and his 25 years of membership.

In 1987. the Oil and Colour Chemists’ Associati0n Australia admitted Ted Fletcher as a fellow in the technology of surface coatings.

In 1998, Royal Australian Air Force Association (WA Division) Inc Aviation Heritage Museum presented Ted Fletcher with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of eight years in its RAAFA Museum Library and computerising library records.

The acknowledgements in  Frank Colquhoun’s 2001 book Cockpit and Spanner  and Brian Hernan’s Forgotten Flyer: The Story of Charles W. Snook record the assistance those authors received from Ted Fletcher.

Our Fletcher Collection includes:

  • A. 1924 photograph captioned ‘Jimmy Woods relaxing with his pipe and a newspaper before setting off for another journey north in Bristol Tourer G-AUDX’
  • C. Photograph captioned ‘In spite of the crude appearance of the Bristol Tourers, they were a remarkably robust aircraft as they were developed from a World War I fighter, the Bristol F2b’
  • D. Photograph captioned ‘The water-cooled engines often boiled in the hot conditions of the North West and pilots carried an emergency supply of water so they could land and top up the radiator’
