In September 1934, VH-URX was registered to MMA at Maylands Aerodrome, Perth WA and named The Gascoyne. It was extensively damaged following a crash in NW Australia but was repaired and resumed flying.
The Airforce requisitioned it in 1939 for the Second World War and changed its registration to A34-1. It eventually crashed into the sea off Dongara, WA in 1942 and was permanently lost.
We have a DVD of Kris Brimmell’s 2012 talk on the rescue of RMA Gascoyne.
See our RMA Gascoyne Flickr Album for images and other information.
Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, live, and learn. We acknowledge that we tell the stories of Noongar Country and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
