Morris (Maurice) Hoffman was born in Russia in the 1880s.
He did military service in the Tsarist army.
He married before leaving Russia and migrated with his new bride to Western Australia, where he had a brother already living in Perth.
In Perth, Morris worked as a wheelwright and coach-builder, before taking on management of a wine saloon.
He then took on the lease of a hotel in Victoria Park and then the lease of a hotel in South Fremantle.
The first hotel he purchased was the Maylands Hotel.
He later formed the Hoffman Group with his children.
Hoffman is remembered as a generous donor to wartime charities and for his assistance to migrants.

We acknowledge that we tell the stories of Noongar Country and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
