In October 1992 at a public meeting held in the Maylands Library the Maylands Ratepayers and Residents Association proposed the formation of a local historic society. The Mayor of the City of Stirling accepted the motion and declared the formation of the Maylands Historical Society (MHS). The MHS was officially registered and incorporated on 1 December 1992.
On 5 June 2003, the MHS merged with the Peninsula Association and changed its name to the Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association Inc. to reflect the caretaker work that the MHS helped with at the Old Peninsula Hotel in addition to its other historical work.
Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, live, and learn. We acknowledge that we tell the stories of Noongar Country and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
