MAYLANDS HISTORICAL AND PENINSULA ASSOCIATION

James William Matthews served with the 48th Australian Infantry Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force in WWI. His service number was 3140 and he held the rank of Private.

He was killed in action in France on 31 August 1916 aged 21 and is commemorated at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France.

His name is located at panel 146 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

‘Maylands, Perth, Western Australia, Australia’ was recorded as his ‘place of association’.
